Upon revisiting the spot, I cannot locate the actual site, When I collected it, I thought that it might be an Arbatrellis, and had brought it home for a closer look. I passed it on to you as an incidental part of the second "aborted hydnum" delivery from Alaska.

By the Green Trails Map. Forest type is mixed fir; Douglas fir, with many Silver firs, with Red cedar. It is well represented with Ponderosa pine.
Several feet from the nearest tree, but the heavy root and abrupt breakoff of the root suggested a lignicolus fungus. Substrate: terricolous.
