Densely clustered growing from very rotten wood partially buried in the ground.
Pileus 6-11 cm, mostly plane but some caps also somewhat convex or slightly uplifted, bright orange with faintly darker radial lines. Slightly wavy or irregularly shaped at margin. Smooth. Neither dry nor viscid. Center of cap with a small umbo and small depressed ring around the umbo. Gills close, decurrent, bright orange. Stipe to 12 cm long, to 2 cm thick, colored like cap but lighter. Stipe central, more or less equal. Flesh yellow-orangish to creamy white. Odor somewhat unpleasant.
