I'll go for that. Especially now that I've looked at some other pictures of U. mammulata on the web---they've got the right growth habit, and are more or less the right scale (mine seem a little small). Maybe the ones I saw were "young" ones. No surprise that sassafras wood smells like root beer: the roots were once used to make the stuff. I suspect all modern root beers are made with artificial flavors, especially as I read someplace that the plant version is carcinogenic...
