Inflorescences of Cyperus ustulatus infected by Bauerago gardneri - this fungus causes the spikelets to distort, and elongate, and when mature fills the spaces within the glumes and where the seeds should be with a fine, yellowish powder - this is evident in these images by the fine dust seen between the glumes and accumulate at the base of the spikelets and rays of the inflorescence. Western Springs is the type locality of this fungus. See http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations/1774868
