A medium size mushroom, one of several found on a well rotted log in mid April. The specimens looked too old to be this years growth, so probably overwintered. The cap width varied from 3 to 8 inches. The black stalk was short and was eccentrically located near one margin of the cap. The cap was uniformly very thin, only 3/32 inch thick. About half of the thickness was whitish flesh, the other half tubes. The cap was soft and flexible, and the edge was wavy and somewhat scalloped. The top was light brownish, felt smooth but was radially lined and looked somewhat rough when magnified. In some specimens there were large, reddish brown areas and in some the center was dark brown (see illustrations). The underside was brownish and overed with small round pores.
