The most similar are 50992 and 74093 (?). Cap: 10-20cm wide, convex when young up to disc plane with slightly depressed centre; light brown up to chocolate brown often with white cracks that make an image of appressed scales in age, smooth when young; margin often inrolled. Flesh has very weak pinkish-brown bruising. Stalk: 5-10cm long, brownish-white up to light brown. Spines: decurrent, 5-10 mm, light brown (sometimes violet brown) up to brown with whitish tips. Habitat: common kind, small group minor single in pine-tree forest with rare birches. Edibility: purplish after boiling, fried mushroom has good, but specific taste as somewhat smoked meat; taste of dried fresh mushroom is intensely bitter. Season: July-September.
