United States, Ohio, Portage County. Brought in by someone else at the Ohio Mushroom Society fall foray. Growing in a cluster at the base of a stump. Caps scaly. Greenish bruising on cap and stem. Green ring zone present below veil on stem. Fruiting body pictured dried a bit in my fridge before being photographed. Clamps present in the stipe trama. Caulocystidia poorly differentiated. Pleurocystidia and cheilocystidia mostly lageniform. Basidia 4-sterigmate. Spores roughened, dextrinoid and with conical apices. Spore measurements: (6.6) 7.7 - 9.1 (10) × (4.2) 4.4 - 5.1 (5.2) µm, Q = (1.5) 1.6 - 2 (2.2); N = 30, Me = 8.4 × 4.7 µm; Qe = 1.8

This specimen was fairly old. Taste strongly acrid. Growing near Picea sp. (P. pungens or P. engelmannii), Salix amygdaloides and Ameliancher alnifolia. Photos taken 1 day later.

Potential ECM hosts in the area were Quercus spp, Carya spp, Quercus grandifolia, Fagus grandifolia, Carpinus caroliniana, Betula alleghaniensis, Alnus incana, Salix nigra and Populus grandidenta. Odor not distinctive. Monomitic with simple-septate generative hyphae. Spores brownish and warted. Spore measurements: (4.6) 5.2 - 6.8 (7.3) × (3.6) 4.8 - 5.9 (6.3) µm, Q = 1 - 1.26 (1.3); N = 30, Me = 5.9 × 5.2 µm; Qe = 1.1
