United States, Ohio, Gahanna, Academy Ridge. Growing caespitose in bare soil between 2 large Fagus grandifolia trees interspersed with Carya saplings. Quercus spp. further away. Caps velvety. Stems lacking reticulation. Basal mycelium white. Pores dull reddish orange and bruising strongly dark blue. Stem context yellow. Cap context white. Context in stem and cap bruising slowly blue with the stem context staining more strongly. Spores olive-brown in mass. Pileipellis elements yellowish in Melzer's reagent. Clamp connections lacking in the pileipellis. Spores smooth. Spore measurements: (10.6) 11.4 - 13.1 (13.6) × (3.6) 3.7 - 4.3 (4.8) µm, Q = (2.4) 2.7 - 3.4 (3.5); N = 30, Me = 12.3 × 4 µm; Qe = 3, 40.0447 -82.8662
