Abstract: Hypholoma with densely clustered, caespitose fruiting on native Pacific Rhododendron. Newly described taxon. Parasitic, saprobic and possibly saprophytic pathogen. Will continue to monitor substrate and update notes on type of rot through the life cycle of the host tree. Collected, observed, vouchered, taxonomically named and analyzed(including microscopy) by Drew Thomas Henderson during week ending 2/3/2019.
Notes: Hypholoma rhododendronicola. Attached field notes/description from type collection by DTH-A very interesting fruiting/occurance on Pacific Rhododendron. Never seen any fungi parasitizing a Rhodie, much less a living one. The older fruiting bodies from last week that I noticed driving by are all but now wilted due to frost and thaw over the last few days, although they were very large(10-12cm caps).
